ARTS TORONTO TRADEMARKS
TO TORONTO ARTS COUNCIL FOUNDATION (TACF)
Earlier this year, Arts Toronto transferred trademarks
for two of its signature programs—Toronto
ArtsWeek and Toronto
Arts Awards—TACF. These programs will assist TACF
and the Coalition to achieve some of the objectives expressed
in the Great
Arts/Great City Initiative, our 10-year plan to raise
awareness of the value of Toronto arts to our society.
The transfer took place officially in January, 2004. Since
that time we have been working toward getting plans and
resources together to support a re-visioning and re-launching
process for ArtsWeek and the Awards.
At the end of March, the Ontario Ministry of Culture confirmed
a grant of $83,000 toward the creation of a detailed business
plan for ArtsWeek 2004 and beyond.
Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund (OCAF) has also pledged
$200,000 toward ArtsWeek redevelopment and implementation
(subject to private sector dollar for dollar matching).
This is all very good news.
More good news: Diana Bennett and Vanessa Harwood, former
directors of Arts Toronto, were recently appointed to the
TACF
Board of Directors. Their presence on the Board ensures
continuity in preserving and building upon Arts Toronto’s
important legacy. Special thanks to Max Beck, Chair of Arts
Toronto, for his leadership throughout this rather lengthy
process.
Thanks also to all other Arts Toronto stakeholders who have
helped with the transition and have offered to continue
to help in the future.
A Toronto Arts Awards redesign process has commenced. It’s
anticipated that they will alternate yearly with The Protégé
Honours, an award program for artists in the early stages
of their careers selected by Toronto Arts Awards recipients.
Toronto Arts Awards will re-launch in 2005.
ArtsWeek 2004 kicks off September 23 and runs to October
3.
