We are truly fortunate to be living
in a city that contains such a wealth of creativity,
imagination and talent. There is an incredible range
of activity here and describing the depth and diversity
of it is like describing the city itself, in all of
its complexity and colour.
At Toronto Arts Council, our programs invest in performances
in both small and major theatres, concerts and exhibitions,
creation and performance, international film and documentary
festivals, music organizations which tour the world,
dance groups from many different cultures, and grassroots
artsmaking that reaches into the heart of our communities
and helps revitalize neighbourhoods.
Innovation, excellence, community and diversity
are key aspects. Artists funded by TAC are participants
in all the city’s major festivals, such as Nuit
Blanche and Luminato.
We invest in talent, in potential, in organizational
growth. In doing so we reflect the aspirations of
Toronto and its citizens. Our job, as the arm’s-length
funding body of the City of Toronto, is to help realize
the tremendous creative potential in Toronto.
In June, TAC board members approved a total of $8,201,646
in operating and project grants. These critical investments
were disbursed to 343 arts organizations across the
city of Toronto. By the end of 2007 we’ll be
investing in approximately 450 organizations and 200
individual artists, helping make an estimated 18,000
events accessible for an audience of over 6.5 million
people.
