Drum Artz Community Centre is a supportive environment that uses the arts to foster diversity, creative expression, team building, and establish self-esteem for Toronto communities. Its goal is to improve knowledge and skills while helping reduce the effects of poverty in the lives of children, youths and adults. Drum Arts also offers programs with access to studio space, instruments, art supplies, and professional instruction.
Established in 1971 as one of the first multi-disciplinary artist run centres, A Space has played a significant role in the evolution of contemporary art in Canada. Over the past decades, A Space has developed a curatorial practice that is inclusive of diverse aesthetics, politically engaged, technically innovative and representative of their membership.
Red Pepper Spectacle Arts is a community arts organization and storefront in Kensington Market led by directors Andy Moro and Gabriella Caruso. Red Pepper produces the Kensington Market Winter Carnival Festival of Lights and the Kensington Market Harvest Festival. They also facilitate programs in schools across the GTA and in remote First Nations’ communities.
Exciting Berkeley Street premieres, a revival of the rock-gospel hit Fire and the cult-musical favourite Little Shop of Horrors are but a few highlights of the Canadian Stage Company's anniversary 20th season this year. The theatre continues its rich tradition of contemporary storytelling with a full slate of projects for the coming seasons, starting with the January 14 premiere of Judith Thompson’s The Palace of the End with Arsinée Khanjian.
The Hannaford Street Silver Band is an award winning, premier professional brass band and Resident Company of Toronto’s St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. In addition to the professional ensemble, the HSSB sponsors and administers three youth bands and adult education classes.
Harbourfront Centre’s NextSteps program showcases local dance talent which reflects the cultural diversity of Toronto. Ballet Creole, one of the participants of NextSteps, has been at the forefront of traditional and contemporary African dance since 1990. Ballet Creole aims to establish a dynamic new artistic tradition in Canada through "creolization" or fusion of diverse dance and music traditions.
Mammalian Diving Reflex’s mandate is to create new work, organize community events, contribute to theoretical and practical advancements in performance and provide its young audience with an entertaining and accessible art experience. Their popular performance, Haircuts by Children, will tour the US, UK and Australia this year.
Native Earth Performing Arts, Canada's oldest professional Native theatre company, celebrates their 25th anniversary this season. The company is dedicated to the creating, developing and producing of professional artistic expression of the Aboriginal experience in Canada. Their highly-acclaimed festival, Weesageechak Begins to Dance, has helped develop over 90 new dance and theatre works by Aboriginal artists.
