THANK YOU MOLLY JOHNSON

Celebrated local jazz vocalist Molly Johnson, who headlined the Mayor’s Giant ArtsWeek KickOff at Nathan Phillips Square on September 23, demonstrated her generosity to Toronto’s arts sector by donating half her $10,000 Roy Thomson Hall Award of Recognition to ArtsWeek. The Award was presented to her on September 27 at City Hall as part of the Toronto Arts Council Foundation Awards.

Johnson’s contribution will be doubled by a matching grant from Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund (OCAF), which gives matching grants to festivals and events that attract tourism to Ontario communities. OCAF will match up to $200,000 for ArtsWeek. To date, ArtsWeek has raised over $115,000.

ArtsWeek raises awareness of the importance of the arts in our community. The all-arts festival is part of a larger campaign called Great Arts=Great City, which calls for a $45 million increase in operating revenue to Toronto’s arts sector by 2012. ArtsWeek receives no share of the increased box office or art work sales it generates, and is free to presenters.

All contributions to ArtsWeek by October 31, 2004 will be matched by OCAF. To make a donation to ArtsWeek, please click here.
