Al Hart - Green Party

1) Will your party commit to upholding the November 2005 federal commitment to a $342 million increase to arts funding over three years?

The Green Party is committed to increasing support for community arts programs and facilities across Canada by establishing stable base-funding at a set percentage of the federal budget. We would also like to see stable base-funding established for young artists.

2) Can you offer any concrete commitment from your party that will improve the environment for the City's artists?

The Green Party recognizes that arts and culture help define our identities and communities. Not only are the many people employed in Toronto's art culture an important part of our economy, but artists are essential to improving the well-being and richness of our city. We must invest in our future musicians, dancers, painters, writers, and other artists, to avoid placing these people in precarious financial situations.

The Green Party plans to use innovative financial tools to ensure that the lives of artists are improved. By shifting taxes away from jobs and employment, and onto pollution and non-sustainable products, we can free up funding for social programs. We also commit to reducing taxes for Canadian's earning less than $40,000/year.
